Abstract
A system is provided for monitoring intraocular pressure, the system comprising: a sensor package configured to be disposed in the suprachoroidal space of a patient's eye; a pressure sensor; a wireless transceiver disposed within the sensor package and coupled to the pressure sensor; an external transceiver, the external receiver being wirelessly coupled to the wireless transceiver when the transceiver is disposed proximate to the patient's eye.
Claims16
An active, implantable system for monitoring intra-ocular pressure, the system comprising:
- a capacitive sensor disposed in a sensor package configured to collect intra-ocular pressure data;
- a memory disposed to said sensor package and connected to said capacitive sensor whereby said intra-optical pressure data is continuously stored;
- a transmitter, said transmitter configured to occasionally transmit intraocular pressure data from said memory to an external receiver;
- wherein said capacitive sensor, memory, and transmitter are configured to be disposed within an eye and said external receiver is configured to be disposed outside said eye.
A method for monitoring intraocular pressure, said method comprising:
- inserting a sensor package within an eye, said sensor package comprising a capacitive sensor, a memory, and a transmitter;
- collecting continuously with said memory intraocular pressure data from said eye with said capacitive sensor;
- storing said intraocular pressure data in said memory;
- and
- transmitting occasionally, via said transmitter, said intraocular pressure data from said memory to an external base unit.
