## Abstract

Disclosed is a simple method for detecting a pathological condition of an insulin-resistant disease, particularly type-2 diabetes. The method comprises quantifying the ganglioside GM3 in a blood sample separated from a living body. More specifically, the method comprises the following steps (a) to (c): (a) separating a plasma or serum from the blood collected from a human; (b) quantifying the ganglioside GM3 in the plasma or serum; and (c) comparing the quantified ganglioside GM3 level to the mean ganglioside GM3 level determined in blood samples from healthy volunteers.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A method for detection of a disease selected from the group consisting of type 2 diabetes and type 2 diabetes combined with hyperlipidemia, wherein said type 2 diabetes group having a Body Mass Index level greater than 30, which comprises:
separating plasma or serum from human blood collected;
quantifying ganglioside GM3 in the plasma or serum separated; and,
comparing the GM3 level quantified to a mean ganglioside GM3 level in blood samples derived from healthy volunteers, thereby detecting the disease.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The method for detection according to claim 1, wherein said quantification of ganglioside GM3 is performed by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), high performance thin layer chromatography (HPTLC), high performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS), gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) or enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) using an anti-GM3 antibody.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The method according to claim 1, wherein said disease is type 2 diabetes.

### Claim 4

A method for predicting a risk of developing a disease selected from the group consisting of type 2 diabetes and type 2 diabetes combined with hyperlipidemia, wherein said type 2 diabetes group having a Body Mass Index level greater than 30, which comprises:
separating plasma or serum from human blood collected;
quantifying ganglioside GM3 in the plasma or serum separated;
comparing the GM3 level quantified to a normal ganglioside GM3 level in blood samples from healthy volunteers; and
monitoring changes in the ganglioside GM3 level, thereby predicting the risk.

### Claim 5 (depends on 4)

The method according to claim 4, wherein said quantification of ganglioside GM3 is performed by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), high performance thin layer chromatography (HPTLC), high performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS), gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) or enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) using an anti-GM3 antibody.

### Claim 6 (depends on 4)

The method according to claim 4, wherein a blood sample is regularly collected from the human and changes in the ganglioside GM3 level in the blood sample collected are monitored.

### Claim 7 (depends on 4)

The method according to claim 4, wherein said disease is type 2 diabetes.

### Claim 8 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the disease is type 2 diabetes combined with hyperlipidemia.

### Claim 9 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the disease is a diabetic group having a Body Mass Index level greater than 30.

### Claim 10 (depends on 4)

The method of claim 4, wherein the disease is type 2 diabetes combined with hyperlipidemia.

### Claim 11 (depends on 4)

The method of claim 4, wherein the disease is a diabetic group having a Body Mass Index level greater than 30.
