Dental implants according to embodiments of the invention comprise a post or posts inserted into the jawbone and a base that is loaded, in the general area of the gum line, against the jawbone using the post or posts. According to some embodiments, the base is secured to each post, loaded against the jawbone, by a fastener system. ## Claims ### Claim 1 A dental implant adapted to be installed in a mouth, comprising: a single post which has a diameter in the range of about 1 mm to about 2.5 mm, includes a screw thread extending along at least a portion thereof and is adapted to be secured in a mouth to a jawbone with at least a portion of the screw thread and a first end thereof in the jawbone and a second end thereof projecting from the jawbone; a one-piece base and preformed core, wherein the core extends from the base, the base including a hole therein through a first side thereof opposite to the core into which hole extends the second end of the post, the base including a peripheral portion surrounding the hole and extending radially from the hole for at least a substantial portion of the base, the core being adapted to be received in a prosthetic device; and a fastener system comprising a screw and structure associated with the hole and the second end of the post which are adapted to engage during tightening of the fastener system to force the peripheral portion of the base on the first side of the base against the jawbone in contact therewith along at least the peripheral portion of the base to load the base against the jawbone. ### Claim 2 (depends on 1) The dental implant of claim 1 wherein the preformed core comprises a preformed cap. ### Claim 3 (depends on 2) The dental implant of claim 2, wherein the cap entirely overlays the base. ### Claim 4 (depends on 2) The dental implant of claim 2, wherein the cap overlays a first portion of the base and does not overlay a second portion of the base. ### Claim 5 (depends on 2) The dental implant of claim 2, comprising the prosthetic device attached to the cap, the prosthetic device being configured to entirely overlay the cap. ### Claim 6 (depends on 3) The dental implant of claim 3, comprising the prosthetic device attached to the cap, the prosthetic device being configured to entirely overlay the cap and to also overlay the second portion of the base. ### Claim 7 (depends on 4) The dental implant of claim 4, comprising the prosthetic device attached to the cap, the prosthetic device being configured to entirely overlay the cap and to also overlay the second portion of the base. ### Claim 8 (depends on 1) The dental implant of claim 1, wherein the base comprises a base plate comprising opposed major sides and at least one minor side, the first side being a major side. ### Claim 9 (depends on 1) The combination of a dental implant according to claim 1 and a prosthetic device adapted to be attached to the core. ### Claim 10 (depends on 9) The combination of claim 9, wherein the prosthetic device comprises structure replacing a single tooth. ### Claim 11 (depends on 9) The combination of claim 9 wherein the prosthetic device comprises structure forming part of a multi-tooth replacement. ### Claim 12 (depends on 9) The combination of claim 9,wherein the prosthetic device comprises a fixed prosthetic device. ### Claim 13 (depends on 9) The combination of claim 9, wherein the prosthetic device comprises a removable prosthetic device. ### Claim 14 (depends on 1) The dental implant of claim 1, wherein the implant is adapted to replace a tooth and the base has a configuration that is adapted to extend along the jawbone for approximately a distance that the replaced tooth formerly extended along the jawbone.
