## Abstract

A method for forming, onto a linear array light modulator, a line of illumination that extends in a linear direction, the method includes forming a first linear beam array and a second linear beam array, both linear beam arrays comprising a plurality of laser beams; forming a mixed illumination by aligning the first linear beam array and the second linear beam array in the linear direction and directing the first and second linear beam arrays along a propagation path; magnifying the mixed illumination from the propagation path in the linear direction and relaying the magnified mixed illumination toward the linear array light modulator; and focusing the mixed illumination in the cross-array direction that is orthogonal to the linear direction onto the linear array light modulator.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A method for forming, onto a linear array light modulator, a line of illumination that extends in a linear direction, the method comprising:
a) forming a first linear beam array in a first plane and a second linear beam array in a second plane offset from the first plane and parallel to the first plane, both linear beam arrays comprising a plurality of laser beams;
b) aligning the first linear beam array and the second linear beam array into a single multi-beam line in the linear direction and directing the first and second linear beam arrays along a propagation path;
c) magnifying the single multi-beam line illumination from the propagation path in the linear direction and relaying the magnified single multi-beam line illumination toward the linear array light modulator; and
d) focusing the single multi-beam line illumination orthogonally to the linear direction onto the linear array light modulator.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1 wherein aligning further comprises disposing an integrator along the propagation path.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1 wherein aligning further comprises disposing at least one optical element in at least the first linear beam array for reducing an array gap between the first and second linear beam arrays.

### Claim 4 (depends on 3)

The method of claim 3 wherein the at least one optical element for reducing the array gap is a prism.

### Claim 5

A method for forming a linear illumination comprising:
a) energizing at least first and second laser arrays, each laser array providing a beam array in a plane wherein the planes are parallel and offset, and having at least one laser beam having a Gaussian beam intensity profile;
b) aligning at least the beam array from the first laser array and the beam array from the second laser array along a common line as a multi-beam line of laser light having a Gaussian beam intensity profile;
c) directing the multi-beam line of laser light to an integrator that provides uniformization along the length direction of the multi-beam line to form a uniformized linear beam with a Gaussian beam intensity profile in an orthogonal width direction;
d) providing a telecentric converter in the path of the uniformized linear beam, the telecentric converter comprising two or more lens elements that distribute the uniformized linear beam along the length direction of the linear illumination; and
e) focusing the uniformized linear beam in the orthogonal width direction onto a linear array light modulator and maintaining a Gaussian beam intensity profile in the width direction.
