Abstract
A wireless communication device transfers instructions to a host device over a USB connection responsive to being connected to the host device over the USB connection. The instructions direct the host device to enumerate the wireless communication device as a USB MSC device. The wireless communication device wirelessly transfers a device identifier for the wireless communication device to a wireless communication network responsive to being connected to the host device over the USB connection. The wireless communication network processes the device identifier to limit communication service for the wireless communication device to communications with a particular data storage system.
Claims20
A method of operating a communication system wherein a user connects a wireless communication device to a host device over a Universal Serial Bus (USB) connection, the method comprising:
- in the wireless communication device, transferring instructions to the host device over the USB connection responsive to being connected to the host device over the USB connection, wherein the instructions direct the host device to enumerate the wireless communication device as a USB Mass Storage Class (MSC) device;
- in the wireless communication device, wirelessly transferring a device identifier for the wireless communication device to a service system in the wireless communication network responsive to being connected to the host device over the USB connection;
- and
- in the service system, processing the device identifier to direct the wireless communication network to limit communication service for the wireless communication device to communications with a particular data storage system.
A communication system comprising:
- a wireless communication device configured to transfer instructions to a host device over a Universal Serial Bus (USB) connection responsive to being connected to the host device over the USB connection, wherein the instructions direct the host device to enumerate the wireless communication device as a USB Mass Storage Class (MSC) device;
- the wireless communication device configured to wirelessly transfer a device identifier for the wireless communication device to a wireless communication network responsive to being connected to the host device over the USB connection;
- and
- a service system in the wireless communication network configured to process the device identifier to direct the wireless communication network to limit communication service for the wireless communication device to communications with a particular data storage system.
