Insurance product model-based apparatus and method

A system for configuring insurance policy, comprising:

• a processor configured to:
• present a user interface control to a user to obtain a user input indicating policy-specific information for an insurance policy, the policy-specific information including a risk unit;
• receive the user input via the user interface control;
• interpret an insurance product model to determine a relevant policy option information applicable to the policy-specific information indicated by the user input, the insurance product model comprising insurance policy coverage data that includes a plurality of policy patterns, and relationships between at least some of the plurality of policy patterns, wherein interpret the insurance product model to determine the relevant policy product includes use the policy patterns, relationships between at least some of the plurality of policy patterns, and the policy specific information to determine the relevant policy option information as defined by the insurance product model;
• and
• display the relevant policy option information to the user.

A computer program product for configuring insurance policy, the computer program product being embodied in a non-transitory computer readable storage medium and comprising computer instructions for:

• presenting a user interface control to a user to obtain a user input indicating policy-specific information for an insurance policy, the policy-specific information including a risk unit;
• receiving the user input via the user interface control;
• interpreting an insurance product model to determine a relevant policy option information applicable to the policy-specific information indicated by the user input, the insurance product model comprising insurance policy coverage data that includes a plurality of policy patterns, and relationships between at least some of the plurality of policy patterns, wherein interpreting the insurance product model to determine the relevant policy product includes using the policy patterns, relationships between at least some of the plurality of policy patterns, and the policy specific information to determine the relevant policy option information as defined by the insurance product model;
• and
• displaying the relevant policy option information to the user.
