Adjusting recorder timing

A system for adjusting recorder timing by using audio identification, the system including at least one processor operable to:

• capture a portion of audio content of a multimedia program from a network;
• generate an audio fingerprint based on the captured portion of audio content;
• match the audio fingerprint to one of a plurality of theme song fingerprints stored in a database;
• retrieve, from the database, an expected theme song time offset associated with a matching theme song fingerprint;
• determine whether the multimedia program is running on-schedule based on the retrieved expected theme song time offset;
• and
• record the multimedia program based on the determination of whether the multimedia program is running on-schedule.

A non-transitory computer-readable medium having stored thereon sequences of instructions, the sequences of instructions including instructions, which, when executed by a processor, cause the processor to perform:

• capturing a portion of audio content of a multimedia program from a network;
• generating an audio fingerprint based on the captured portion of audio content;
• matching the audio fingerprint to one of a plurality of theme song fingerprints stored in a database;
• retrieving, from the database, an expected theme song time offset associated with a matching theme song fingerprint;
• determining whether the multimedia program is running on-schedule based on the retrieved expected theme song time offset;
• and
• recording the multimedia program based on the determination of whether the multimedia program is running on-schedule.
