Content identification and quality monitoring

A computer readable storage medium product having encoded instructions which, when executed by one or more processors, cause or control the one or more processors to perform the steps of a process, the process steps comprising:

• obtaining a first fingerprint derived from and uniquely identified with a first media content, wherein the first media content is processed to generate a second media content;
• obtaining a second fingerprint derived from and uniquely identified with the second media content;
• comparing the first fingerprint and the second fingerprint to determine a difference between the first fingerprint and the second fingerprint;
• and
• determining, based on the difference between the first fingerprint and the second fingerprint, whether a quality degradation exists between the first media content and the second media content;
• wherein the comparing step comprises identifying groups of bits that are interchanged or shifted between the first fingerprint and the second fingerprint.

A system, comprising:

• a processor;
• a fingerprint derivation unit comprising functionality for:
• obtaining a first fingerprint derived from and uniquely identified with a first media content, wherein the first media content is processed to generate a second media content;
• and
• obtaining a second fingerprint derived from and uniquely identified with the second media content;
• and
• a fingerprint comparison unit comprising functionality for comparing the first fingerprint and the second fingerprint to determine a difference between the first fingerprint and the second fingerprint and for determining, based on the difference between the first fingerprint and the second fingerprint, whether a quality degradation exists between the first media content and the second media content;
• wherein the functionality for comparing comprises functionality for identifying groups of bits that are interchanged or shifted between the first fingerprint and the second fingerprint.

A computer readable storage medium product having encoded instructions which, when executed by one or more processors, cause or control the one or more processors to configure, control or program a system, the system comprising:

• a processor;
• a fingerprint derivation unit comprising functionality for:
• obtaining a first fingerprint derived from and uniquely identified with a first media content, wherein the first media content is processed to generate a second media content;
• and
• obtaining a second fingerprint derived from and uniquely identified with the second media content;
• and
• a fingerprint comparison unit comprising functionality for comparing the first fingerprint and the second fingerprint to determine a difference between the first fingerprint and the second fingerprint and for determining, based on the difference between the first fingerprint and the second fingerprint, whether a quality degradation exists between the first media content and the second media content;
• wherein the functionality for comparing comprises functionality for identifying groups of bits that are interchanged or shifted between the first fingerprint and the second fingerprint.

A computer system, comprising:

• means for obtaining a first fingerprint derived from and uniquely identified with a first media content, wherein the first media content is processed to generate a second media content;
• means for obtaining a second fingerprint derived from and uniquely identified with the second media content;
• means for comparing the first fingerprint and the second fingerprint to determine a difference between the first fingerprint and the second fingerprint;
• and
• means for determining, based on the difference between the first fingerprint and the second fingerprint, whether a quality degradation exists between the first media content and the second media content;
• wherein the means for comparing comprises means for identifying groups of bits that are interchanged or shifted between the first fingerprint and the second fingerprint.
