Cellular communication system and method for broadcast communication

A wireless communication unit comprising:

• a transceiver arranged to support both uplink and downlink communication allocated for unicast time division duplex (TDD) communication;
• logic arranged to support the unicast communication in a first portion of a TDD physical resource using a single cell identifier reuse pattern;
• wherein the wireless communication unit is characterized by:
• logic arranged to support broadcast communication in a second portion of the TDD physical resource using a common cell identifier reuse pattern for broadcast transmissions.

A method of communicating in a time division duplex (TDD) cellular communication system, the method comprising, at a wireless communication unit:

• supporting both uplink and downlink communication allocated for unicast time division duplex (TDD) communication;
• and
• supporting the unicast communication in a first portion of a TDD physical resource using a single cell identifier reuse pattern;
• supporting broadcast communication in a second portion of the TDD physical resource using a common cell identifier reuse pattern for broadcast transmissions.

A non-transitory computer program product having executable program code stored therein for supporting communications in a cellular communication system, the program code operable for, when executed at a wireless communication unit:

• supporting both uplink and downlink communication allocated for unicast time division duplex (TDD) communication;
• and
• supporting the unicast communication in a first portion of a TDD physical resource using a single cell identifier reuse pattern;
• and
• supporting broadcast communication in a second portion of the TDD physical resource using a common cell identifier reuse pattern for broadcast transmissions.
