Location-based network detection

A system comprising:

• one or more processors;
• and
• instructions stored in a non-transitory computer-readable memory for execution by the one or more processors and configured to cause the one or more processors to perform operations comprising:
• receiving, from broadcast radio stations, broadcast radio signals;
• selecting a broadcast radio station having the strongest signal broadcast radio signals as a reference location for the mobile device;
• determining a plurality of wireless network transmitters that are located within a predetermined distance from the reference location;
• establishing a search order for the plurality of wireless network transmitters based on proximity of the wireless network transmitters to the reference location;
• detecting a network transmission from a first wireless network transmitter included in the plurality of wireless network transmitters;
• examining network information included in the detected network transmission;
• correlating the network information with a known geographic location of the first wireless network transmitter;
• computing position coordinates of a mobile device using the geographic location of the first wireless network transmitter;
• and
• storing the position coordinates of the mobile device and the corresponding network information in a local database at the mobile device.
