Abstract
Disclosed is a liquid crystal display device having a wide viewing angle in which compensation films are provided between a liquid crystal display panel and each polarizer so as to change polarized states of input and output light of the liquid crystal display panel via the polarizers, thereby preventing light leakage in a diagonal direction of the liquid crystal display device in a normally black mode.
Claims19
A liquid crystal display device comprising:
- a liquid crystal display panel having a liquid crystal layer;
- a first polarizer and a second polarizer located below and above the liquid crystal display panel, respectively, to polarize light;
- a negative biaxial film provided between the liquid crystal display panel and the second polarizer to change a light polarized state, and the negative biaxial film having a retardation value Re of 240˜300nm in a horizontal direction and a retardation value Rth of −350˜550nm in a thickness direction;
- and
- a positive biaxial film provided between the negative biaxial film and the second polarizer to change a light polarized state, and the positive biaxial film having a retardation value Re of 240˜300nm in a horizontal direction and a retardation value Rth of −50˜0nm in a thickness direction,
- wherein Re=(nx=ny)d, Rth=(nx−nz)d, and nx, nyand nzdenote refractive indexes of x, y and z-axial directions, respectively.
