Abstract
A one-way clutch includes a first plate including cams distributed about an axis, a second plate axially facing the cams and including pockets, a coil located in one of the plates, struts, each strut supported in one of the pockets for pivoting axially relative to the cams in response to an electromagnetic field induced by current in the coil, and springs urging the struts to pivot opposite a pivot direction caused by energizing the coil.
Claims14
A one-way clutch, comprising:
- a first plate including cams distributed about an axis;
- a second plate having a recess containing the first plate and including pockets;
- a coil located in one of the plates;
- struts, each strut supported in one of the pockets for pivoting axially relative to the cams in response to an electromagnetic field induced by current in the coil;
- springs urging the struts to pivot opposite a pivot direction caused by energizing the coil.

A one-way clutch, comprising:
- a cam plate including cams distributed about an axis;
- a pocket plate having a recess containing the cam plate, including pockets and a coil;
- struts, each strut supported in one of the pockets to pivot axially away from the cams in response to an electromagnetic field induced by current in the coil;
- springs, each spring located in one of the pockets, tending to pivot a respective strut axially toward the cams.
