A control device of a diesel engine, comprising:

• acceleration detection means including an acceleration sensor, the acceleration sensor being attached to an engine body that defines a combustion chamber, the acceleration detection means outputting a vibration acceleration;
• integration means for integrating values corresponding to amplitudes of the vibration acceleration due to burning from a predetermined integration start timing that is at least before an ignition timing;
• comparison means for comparing an integration value of the integration means with a predetermined ignition timing judgment level;
• real ignition timing judgment means for judging a real ignition timing on the basis of a reach timing, at which the integration value has reached the ignition timing judgment level.

A method of controlling a diesel engine, comprising:

• detecting a vibration acceleration by an acceleration sensor attached to an engine body that defines a combustion chamber;
• outputting the vibration acceleration;
• integrating values corresponding to amplitudes of the vibration acceleration due to burning from a predetermined integration start timing that is at least before an ignition timing;
• comparing an integration value with a predetermined ignition timing judgment level;
• judging a real ignition timing on the basis of a reach timing, at which the integration value has reached the ignition timing judgment level.
