Restart operation with logical blocks in queued commands

A system, comprising:

• a memory comprising a plurality of queues configured to queue a series of commands that transfer data to a host, wherein the data is arranged as logical blocks, each logical block comprising a plurality of blocks, further wherein a first command specifies a starting logical block address (LBA) and a number of blocks to be transferred;
• a transmit first in first out memory (FIFO) for transmitting the data to the host, the transmit FIFO including a FIFO output configured to tabulate, during transferring of data a number of successfully sent blocks corresponding to a number of blocks confirmed by the host as successfully received by the host;
• and
• a disk controller configured to:
• in response to receiving an unsuccessful status from the host indicating a transmission error occurred for the first command, identify, based, at least in part, on the number of successfully sent blocks, a block immediately following the successfully sent blocks as a restart block;
• and
• re-transfer the data in the restart block to the host.

A method comprising:

• receiving a first command to transfer data to a host, wherein the data is arranged in logical blocks and each logical block includes a plurality of blocks, further wherein the first command specifies a starting logical block address (LBA) and a number of blocks to be transferred;
• transferring the data to the host;
• receiving an error message from the host indicating that an error occurred during the transferring of data;
• identifying a last successfully sent block based on a number of successfully sent blocks confirmed as successfully received by the host;
• identifying a restart block immediately following the last successfully sent block;
• transferring the data in the restart block to the host by:
• updating the starting LBA and the number of blocks to be transferred specified in the first command, based, at least in part, on the number of successfully sent blocks;
• and
• storing the first command in a staging queue that stores commands that have not yet been executed.
