Abstract
One or more universal serial bus (USB) devices are connected at a client computer. The USB devices are recognized by the client computer and a determination is made as to whether an application server computer provides functionality for one or more of the USB devices. A specific communication path is provided from the USB device to the server computer if functionality is provided by the application server computer.
Claims20
A computing device comprising:
- one or more processors;
- computer-readable storage media operably coupled with the one or more processors;
- an application stored on the computer-readable storage media and executed on the one or more processors on behalf of a client device in communication with the computing device, the application configured to interact with a client universal serial bus (USB) device connected to the client device, the application further configured to provide a control code for remotely controlling the client USB device;
- and
- a proxy USB driver stored on the computer-readable storage media and executed on the one or more processors to provide the application with remote interaction with the client USB device by communicating with a client USB driver on the client device, wherein the communicating is based on a device-specific object generated for the client USB device, and wherein the proxy USB driver provides the application with remote interaction with the client USB device by providing to the client USB device one or more input/output request packets (IRPs) generated from the control code.
2 more elements
A client device comprising:
- one or more processors;
- computer-readable storage media operably coupled with the one or more processors;
- at least one universal serial bus (USB) device connected to the client device;
- a USB driver, stored on the computer-readable storage media and executed on the one or more processors, that interacts with the USB device;
- and
- a remote client access driver stored on the computer-readable storage media and executed on the one or more processors to pass communications between the USB driver and an interface on an application server that is located remotely from the client device, wherein an application is executed on the application server, wherein the communications provide to the application control of the at least one USB device connected to the client device through one or more request packets that are generated from a control code provided by the application, and wherein the interface is representative of a device class to which the at least one USB device belongs.
3 more elements
A method comprising:
- under control of one or more processors configured with executable instructions,
- executing an application on a first computing device on behalf of a second computing device, the second computing device having a universal serial bus (USB) device connected thereto;
- generating, on the first computing device, a data object specific to the USB device connected to the second computing device;
- and
- passing communications between the application and the USB device based, at least in part, on the data object to provide, to the application on the first computing device, remote control of the USB device connected to the second computing device by communicating one or more input/output request packets (IRPs) that are generated from a control code provided by the application.
