Abstract
A method and system that is directed to the local delivery of growth factors to the mammalian CNS to treat CNS disorders associated with neuronal death and/or dysfunction is described.
Claims16
A method of treating a human patient for epilepsy, comprising:
- administering to a target brain tissue of said patient a therapeutically effective amount of a pharmaceutical composition comprising glial cell-derived neurotrophic factor (GDNF);
- wherein said GDNF is administered by intermittent convection enhanced delivery (CED) at a rate that counters the tissue clearance rate of said GDNF, wherein there is cessation of GDNF delivery during the intermissions between administrations, wherein the intermissions between administration of said GDNF are at least about one week,
- wherein said epilepsy is treated.
