Abstract
The present invention is directed to methods of treating cancer and preventing cancer metastasis in a subject by administering a modulator of CGRP receptor signaling. The present invention is further directed to methods of identifying novel compounds that inhibit CGRP receptor signaling, and reagents and animal models useful for the same.
Claims3
A method of inhibiting survival of a metastatic cancer cell or inhibiting establishment of a cancerous metastasis comprising:
- contacting a metastatic cancer cell in vivo with a calcitonin-gene related peptide (“CGRP”) receptor antagonist, CGRP8-37, wherein said contacting is effective to inhibit CGRP receptor activity and either kill or inhibit growth of the metastatic cancer cell or inhibit establishment of a cancerous metastasis.
