Abstract
Disclosed herein are recombinant tobacco osmotin polypeptides and methods for expressing tobacco osmotin polypeptides in microbial host cells. The recombinant tobacco osmotin polypeptides produced by the methods disclosed herein may be utilized as biocides or as therapeutic agents in medicaments.
Claims15
A method for producing a recombinant tobacco osmotin polypeptide, the method comprising:
- (a) growing in culture media microbial host cells transformed with a vector that inducibly expresses the tobacco osmotin polypeptide, wherein the culture media comprises about 2-20 μM Fe3+;
- (b) inducing expression of the tobacco osmotin polypeptide;
- (c) adjusting pH of the culture media to about 6.5-7.5 after inducing expression of the tobacco osmotin polypeptide;
- and
- (d) isolating the tobacco osmotin polypeptide, wherein at least about 50 mg tobacco osmotin polypeptide per liter of culture media is isolated.
