Abstract
The present invention provides methods to prevent photoreceptor death. In particular, the present invention provides peptides which prevent FAS-mediated photoreceptor apoptosis.
Claims2
A method of increasing photoreceptor survival comprising administering to a subject having retinal detachment a photoreceptor protective composition comprising a photoreceptor protective polypeptide comprising:
- a) the fragment of MET that is SEQ ID NO:1 (MET12), or (b) a fragment of MET that comprises at least 70% sequence similarity to MET12 wherein said polypeptide inhibits FAS-mediated photoreceptor apoptosis, and wherein increasing photoreceptor survival comprises inhibiting photoreceptor apoptosis.
