Abstract
In one aspect, a method includes providing a splitter at a first storage array, receiving data from a host, storing the data on the first storage array, using a data protection appliance (DPA) to expose a device, continuously copying data stored on the first storage array to the device using the splitter and replicating the data to a second storage array using the DPA.
Claims19
A method, comprising:
- providing a first splitter at a first storage array;
- receiving data from a host;
- storing the data on the first storage array;
- using a data protection appliance (DPA) to expose a device;
- continuously copying data stored on the first storage array to the device using the first splitter;
- and
- replicating the data to a second storage array using the DPA,
- wherein providing the first splitter at the first storage array comprises providing a splitter configured to transition through a plurality of states, and
- wherein the plurality of states comprises:
- a source side processing (SSP) active state;
- a SSP tracking state;
- a SSP draining state;
- a SSP failed state;
- a target side processing (TSP) passive state;
- a TSP inactive state;
- and
- a TSP active state.

An article comprising:
- a non-transitory machine-readable medium that stores executable instructions, the instructions causing a machine to:
- provide a splitter configured to transition through a plurality of states at a first storage array;
- receive data from a host;
- store the data on the first storage array;
- use a data protection appliance (DPA) to expose a device;
- continuously copy data stored on the first storage array to the device using the splitter;
- and
- replicate the data to a second storage array using the DPA,
- wherein the plurality of states comprises a source side processing (SSP) active state, a SSP tracking state, a SSP draining state, a SSP failed state, a target side processing (TSP) passive state, a TSP inactive state and a TSP active state.

An apparatus, comprising:
- circuitry to:
- provide a splitter configured to transition through a plurality of states at a first storage array;
- receive data from a host;
- store the data on the first storage array;
- use a data protection appliance (DPA) to expose a device;
- continuously copy data stored on the first storage array to the device using the splitter;
- and
- replicate the data to a second storage array using the DPA,
- wherein the plurality of states comprises a source side processing (SSP) active state, a SSP tracking state, a SSP draining state, a SSP failed state, a target side processing (TSP) passive state, a TSP inactive state and a TSP active state.
