Abstract
The invention provides foams of desired cell sizes formed from metal or ceramic materials that coat the surfaces of carbon foams which are subsequently removed. For example, metal is located over a sol-gel foam monolith. The metal is melted to produce a metal/sol-gel composition. The sol-gel foam monolith is removed, leaving a metal foam.
Claims26
A method, comprising:
- coating the surface of a carbon foam substrate with a metal coating material, wherein said carbon foam substrate comprises particle sizes within a range from 3 nm to 20 nm and further comprises mesopores, wherein said coating material conforms to the shape of said carbon foam substrate and hardens to produce a structure having a solid shape;
- and
- removing said carbon foam substrate from said structure.
