Abstract
A method of stabilizing combustion in a gas turbine engine includes the steps of observing a combustor flame from a location upstream from said flame to detect spectral characteristics indicative of a condition affecting combustion stability, and tuning the engine to stabilize combustion based upon an indicated condition affecting combustion stability.
Claims5
A method of stabilizing combustion in a gas turbine engine, comprising the steps of:
- a) observing a combustor flame issuing from a fuel nozzle, along a line of sight extending generally parallel to an axis of said combustor flame, from a plurality of circumferentially spaced apart viewing ports in a leading portion of the fuel nozzle, to detect spectral characteristics indicative of a condition affecting combustion stability;
- and
- b) tuning the gas turbine engine to stabilize combustion based upon an indicated condition affecting the combustion stability.
