Linking graphical elements of data visualizations

A non-transitory computer-readable medium having stored thereon program code for representing data values of a dataset as a plurality of graphical elements in a data visualization, the program code comprising:

• code for receiving a selection of a generic content identifier for a data table of a dataset, the generic content identifier including a generic substring, the generic substring configured to be substituted with a unique string identifier, the unique string identifier identifying one or more data entries of the data table of the dataset;
• code for associating the data table of the dataset with web-accessible information related to the data table of the dataset using the generic content identifier;
• code for generating the data visualization for the dataset based on a generic configuration;
• code for receiving through a first user interface, a selection of a graphical element of the plurality of graphical elements in the data visualization, wherein the selected graphical element is a group element;
• code for generating a unique content identifier by substituting the generic substring in the generic content identifier with a unique string identifier of the selected graphical element;
• code for linking the selected graphical element with web-accessible information related to the selected graphical element using the unique content identifier;
• and
• code for rendering the web-accessible information related to the selected graphical element based on the unique content identifier code for substituting the generic substring with the unique string identifier of the selected graphical element such that the unique string identifier is comprised within the data table, wherein the data table represents a hierarchical depth level of a plurality of hierarchical depth levels, the data table including data entries of aggregate values of the hierarchical depth level.

A system for representing data values of a dataset as a plurality of graphical elements in a data visualization, the system comprising:

• a processor;
• and
• a memory coupled to the processor, the memory configured to store a plurality of code modules which when executed by the processor cause the processor to:
• receive a selection of a generic content identifier for a data table of a dataset, the generic content identifier including a generic substring, the generic substring configured to be substituted with a unique string identifier, the unique string identifier identifying one or more data entries of the data table of the dataset;
• associate the data table of the dataset with web-accessible information related to the data table of the dataset using the generic content identifier;
• generate the data visualization for the dataset based on a first configuration;
• receive through a first user interface, a selection of a graphical element of the plurality of graphical elements in the data visualization, wherein the selected graphical element is a group element;
• generate a unique content identifier by substituting the generic substring in the generic content identifier with a unique string identifier of the selected graphical element;
• link the selected graphical element with web-accessible information related to the selected graphical element using the unique content identifier;
• and
• render the web-accessible information related to the selected graphical element based on the unique content identifier substituting the generic substring with the unique string identifier of the selected graphical element such that the unique string identifier is comprised within the data table, wherein the data table represents a hierarchical depth level of a plurality of hierarchical depth levels, the data table including data entries of aggregate values of the hierarchical depth level.
