Information lifecycle management assisted asynchronous replication

A computer system comprising:

• a processor;
• a memory operatively coupled to the processor;
• and
• a program module (i) which executes in the processor from the memory and (ii) which, when executed by the processor, causes the computer system to provide assisted asynchronous replication between a first storage server having a first current state and a second storage server having a second current state by
• receiving an instruction to roll back the first storage server from the first current state to a previous state according to a previous snapshot,
• in response to receiving the instruction, rolling back the first storage server from the first current state to the previous state according to the previous snapshot,
• determining whether the previous snapshot is available on the second storage server,
• in response to determining that the previous snapshot is unavailable on the second storage server, retrieving information lifecycle management (ILM) data,
• identifying a last consistency point common to the first storage server and the second storage server based on the ILM data, the last consistency point at or prior to the previous snapshot, and
• rolling back the second storage server from the second current state to the last consistency point.

A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium having computer-executable instructions stored thereon which, when executed by a computer, cause the computer to:

• receive an instruction to roll back a first storage server from a first current state to a previous state according to a previous snapshot;
• in response to receiving the instruction, roll back the first storage server from the first current state to the previous state according to the previous snapshot;
• determine whether the previous snapshot is available on a second storage server;
• in response to determining that the previous snapshot is unavailable on the second storage server, retrieve information lifecycle management (ILM) data specifying last access times for each block in the first storage server and the second storage server;
• identify a last consistency point common to the first storage server and the second storage server based on the ILM data, the last consistency point at or prior to the previous snapshot;
• and
• roll back the second storage server from a second current state to the last consistency point.
