Abstract
A device receives a Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) response that includes a load header associated with a downstream Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) device. The device also determines an amount of traffic to send to the downstream Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) device based on the load header. The device further sends the determined amount of traffic to the downstream Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) device.
Claims24
A computing device-implemented method comprising:
- receiving a Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) response that includes a load header associated with a downstream SIP device, the load header including information identifying a first load status of the downstream SIP device;
- determining, based on the first load status, an amount of traffic to send to the downstream SIP device,
- determining the amount of traffic to send the downstream SIP device including reducing the amount of traffic to send to the downstream SIP when a trigger, indicating an overload condition of the downstream SIP device, is received based on the first load status;
- sending the determined amount of traffic to the downstream SIP device;
- determining, during a monitoring time period after sending the determined amount of traffic, whether a second load status is received from the downstream SIP device;
- determining, based on determining whether the second load status is received from the downstream SIP device, whether reducing the amount of traffic to send to the downstream SIP device, when the trigger is received, is successful;
- determining that reducing the amount of traffic to send to the downstream SIP device is unsuccessful when the second load status is not received;
- and
- further reducing the determined amount of traffic when reducing the amount of traffic to send to the downstream SIP device is unsuccessful.
A device comprising:
- a processor to:
- receive a Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) response that includes a load header associated with a downstream SIP device, the load header including a first load status associated with the downstream SIP device,
- determine, based on the first load status associated with the downstream SIP device, an amount of traffic to send to the downstream SIP device,
- send the determined amount of traffic to the downstream SIP device,
- determine whether a second load status is received, from the downstream SIP device, during a time period after sending the determined amount of traffic,
- determine whether an overload condition, associated with the downstream SIP device, has improved based on determining whether the second load status is received during the time period,
- when the second load status is received during the time period:
- manage, based on the second load status, the determined amount of traffic to send to the downstream SIP device, and
- when the second load status is not received during the time period:
- determine that the overload condition has not improved, and
- reduce the determined amount of traffic to send to the downstream SIP device.
A non-transitory computer-readable medium comprising:
- a plurality of instructions which, when executed by at least one processor of an upstream Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) device, cause the at least one processor to:
- receive a SIP message from a downstream SIP device, a header, of the SIP message, including information identifying a first load status of the downstream SIP device;
- determine, based on the first load status, an amount of traffic to send to the downstream SIP device;
- send the determined amount of traffic to the downstream SIP device;
- determine, during a time period after sending the determined amount of traffic, whether a second load status is received from the downstream SIP device;
- determine, based on determining whether the second load status is received from the downstream SIP device during the time period, whether the determined amount of traffic, sent to the downstream SIP device, improves an overload condition of the downstream SIP device;
- manage, based on the second load status, the determined amount of traffic to send to the downstream SIP device when the second load status is received during the time period;
- determine that the determined amount of traffic, sent to the downstream SIP device, does not improve the overload condition when the second load status is not received during the time period;
- and
- reduce the determined amount of traffic based on determining that the determined amount of traffic does not improve the overload condition.
