Abstract
Methods, devices, and systems are provided for negotiating the usage of a binary object representation of SIP messages. More specifically, the negotiation for the binary SIP transmission can be done by exchanging text-based SIP messages or other similar messages over standard SIP connection channels. If the negotiation is successful, then binary SIP messaging may be employed to enhance the ease and efficiency with which a SIP message is generated, transmitted over a communication network, and parsed/processed by a SIP network element.
Claims19
A method, comprising:
- sending, by a first SIP network element, a first message to a second SIP network element, the first message including a request to establish a first communication session using binary SIP messages and further including negotiation information including byte-ordering negotiation information;
- receiving, at the first SIP network element, a response to the first message from the second SIP network element;
- determining, by the first SIP network element, whether to communicate with the second SIP network element using at least one binary SIP message, the at least one binary SIP message including a self-relative pointer that points from a fixed portion of the at least one binary SIP message to a variable portion of the at least one binary SIP message, wherein the first message comprises a SIP message and wherein the self-relative pointer comprises a scalar value in the fixed portion that identifies a distance from the fixed portion to a corresponding object in the variable portion, and wherein the corresponding object comprises information used to route the at least one binary SIP message across the communication network to the second SIP network element.
A communication device adapted to send a first SIP message to a SIP network element, the first message including a request to establish a first communication session using binary SIP messages and further including negotiation information including byte-ordering negotiation information, receive a response to the first SIP message from the SIP network element, and determine whether to communicate with the SIP network element using binary SIP messages, at least one of which includes a self-relative pointer comprising a scalar value in a fixed portion of the binary SIP message that identifies a distance from the fixed portion to a corresponding object in a variable portion of the binary SIP message, wherein the object comprises information used to route the first SIP message across the communication network to a target communication device.
A computer program product comprising computer executable instructions stored onto a non-transitory computer readable medium which, when executed by a processor of a computer, cause the processor to execute a method, the method comprising:
- generating a first message for transmission to a SIP network element, the first message being a SIP message and including a request to establish a first communication session using binary SIP messages and further including negotiation information including byte-ordering negotiation information;
- causing the first message to be transmitted to the SIP network element;
- analyzing a response to the first message from the SIP network element;
- and
- based on the analysis of the response to the first message, determining whether to communicate with the SIP network element using at least one binary SIP message that includes a self-relative pointer comprising a scalar value in a fixed portion of the at least one binary SIP message that identifies a distance from the fixed portion to a corresponding object in a variable portion of the at least one binary SIP message, and wherein the object comprises information used to route the at least one binary SIP message across the communication network to the SIP network element.
