Abstract
An inbred rice line designated 103006 is disclosed. The invention relates to the seeds of inbred rice line 103006, to the plants of rice line 103006 and to methods for producing a rice plant by crossing line 103006 with itself or another rice line. The invention further relates to hybrid rice seeds and plants produced by crossing inbred rice line 103006 with another rice line.
Claims27
A seed of inbred rice line 103006, wherein a representative sample of seed of said inbred rice line was deposited under ATCC Accession No. PTA-12288.
A method of introducing one or more desired traits into inbred rice line 103006, wherein the method comprises:
- (a) crossing an inbred rice line 103006 plant, wherein a representative sample of seed was deposited under ATCC Accession No. PTA-12288, with a plant of another rice line that comprises a desired trait to produce progeny plants, wherein the desired trait(s) is selected from the group consisting of male sterility, herbicide resistance, insect resistance, modified fatty acid metabolism, modified carbohydrate metabolism and resistance to bacterial disease, fungal disease and viral disease;
- (b) selecting one or more progeny plants that have the desired trait(s);
- (c) backcrossing the selected progeny plants with the inbred rice line 103006 plants to produce backcross progeny plants;
- (d) selecting for backcross progeny plants that have the desired trait(s);
- and
- (e) repeating steps (c) and (d) three or more times to produce selected fourth or higher backcross progeny plants that comprise the desired trait(s).
A method of producing a hybrid rice seed, wherein the method comprises crossing inbred rice line 103006, wherein said inbred rice line has been genetically modified to add a desired trait, with a different rice plant and harvesting the resultant hybrid rice seed.
