Abstract
This document provides aquaretic and natriuretic polypeptides. For example, this document provides polypeptides having aquaretic and/or natriuretic activities. In some cases, a polypeptide provided herein can have aquaretic and natriuretic activities, while lacking the ability to lower blood pressure. This document also provides methods and materials for inducing aquaretic and/or natriuretic activities within a mammal.
Claims12
A natriuretic polypeptide less than 45 amino acid residues in length, wherein said polypeptide consists essentially of, in an order from amino terminus to carboxy terminus:
- (a) the sequence set forth in SEQ ID NO:1 ,
- (b) the sequence set forth in SEQ ID NO:2, and
- (c) the sequence set forth in SEQ ID NO:3.
An isolated nucleic acid encoding a natriuretic polypeptide less than 45 amino acid residues in length, wherein said polypeptide consists essentially of, in an order from amino terminus to carboxy terminus:
- (a) the sequence set forth in SEQ ID NO:1,
- (b) the sequence set forth in SEQ ID NO:2, and
- (c) the sequence set forth in SEQ ID NO:3.
A vector comprising a nucleic acid encoding a natriuretic polypeptide less than 45 amino acid residues in length, wherein said polypeptide consists essentially of, in an order from amino terminus to carboxy terminus:
- (a) the sequence set forth in SEQ ID NO:1,
- (b) the sequence set forth in SEQ ID NO:2, and
- (c) the sequence set forth in SEQ ID NO:3.
A host cell comprising a nucleic acid encoding a natriuretic polypeptide less than 45 amino acid residues in length, wherein said polypeptide consists essentially of, in an order from amino terminus to carboxy terminus:
- (a) the sequence set forth in SEQ ID NO:1,
- (b) the sequence set forth in SEQ ID NO:2, and
- (c) the sequence set forth in SEQ ID NO:3.
A pharmaceutical composition comprising a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier and a natriuretic polypeptide less than 45 amino acid residues in length, wherein said polypeptide consists essentially of, in an order from amino terminus to carboxy terminus:
- (a) the sequence set forth in SEQ ID NO:1,
- (b) the sequence set forth in SEQ ID NO:2, and
- (c) the sequence set forth in SEQ ID NO:3.
A method for increasing aquaretic and natriuretic activity within a mammal without lowering blood pressure, wherein said method comprises administering to said mammal a natriuretic polypeptide less than 45 amino acid residues in length, wherein said polypeptide consists essentially of, in an order from amino terminus to carboxy terminus:
- (a) the sequence set forth in SEQ ID NO:1,
- (b) the sequence set forth in SEQ ID NO:2, and
- (c) the sequence set forth in SEQ ID NO:3.
