Abstract
Compositions and methods of using compositions that induce UBE1L or a ubiquitin-like protein ISG15, or inhibit a deconjugase UBP43 to degrade oncogenic proteins and enhance apoptosis of cancer (neoplastic) or pre-cancerous (pre-neoplastic) cells are provided. Methods for the prevention or treatment of cancer via administration of these compositions are also provided.
Claims1
A method for identifying an agent for use in treating cancer comprising contacting deconjugase UBP43, or a cell expressing the same, with a test agent and measuring the agent's ability to bind UBP43 protein and selectively inhibit UBP43 activity, wherein an agent that selectively inhibits deconjugase UBP43 activity is useful in treating cancer and said cancer is selected from the group consisting of lung cancer, gastric cancer, and breast cancer.
