Image forming apparatus with operation of image bearing member after image formation

An image forming apparatus comprising:

• a rotatable image bearing member;
• a charging roller, contacting said image bearing member, for electrically charging said image bearing member;
• a developing device for developing a latent image formed on said image bearing member into a developer image;
• a cleaning device for removing a developer remaining on said image bearing member after the developer image is transferred from said image bearing member onto a developer image receiving member,
• wherein said cleaning device includes a cleaning blade contacting said image bearing member and having a fixed end and a free end which is located upstream of the fixed end with respect to a rotational direction of said image bearing member;
• and
• a control device for controlling a rotating operation of said image bearing member,
• wherein said control device is capable of performing multiple times of:
• (1) a rotation of said image bearing member in a direction identical to a rotational direction of said image bearing member during image formation, effected by rotating said image bearing member, and (2) a stop of the rotation, in a period from a stop of rotation of said image bearing member made after completion of the image formation until a subsequent image forming job is input, and
• wherein a number of the multiple times is larger with a larger number of sheets subjected to the image formation in an image forming job before the rotation of said image bearing member is stopped.
