Abstract
Access control based on CSMA is favorably carried out with the RTS/CTS method used together. If the RTS/CTS procedure is used together, CTS information is transmitted in response to the reception of RTS information, and data is transmitted in response to the reception of CTS. The CTS transmitting station measures the quality of RTS receive signal, and thereby determines a transmission rate at which it can receive and notifies a station as the destination of CTS. The station as the destination of CTS transmits data in response to CTS information. As the transmission rate for this data, the transmission rate indicated in the RATE field in CTS is applied.
Claims36
A wireless communication system providing random access communication, concomitantly using the RTS/CTS method, comprising:
- a sending communication station, serving as an origin of data transmission, to transmit a frame including request to send (RTS) information, and initiate data transmission responsive to a reception of a frame including clear to send (CTS) information, the sending communication station describing in the frame including RTS information a lapse of time that starts and ends before the reception of an entirety of the frame including CTS information, transmitted by a destination communication station in response to a reception of the frame including RTS information, as medium reservation time information, wherein
- other communication stations which receive the frame including RTS information set a NAV (Network Allocation Vector) to prohibit transmission by the other communication stations only during the lapse of time defined by the medium reservation time information.
A sending communication station, comprising:
- a radio transmitter unit configured to transmit a frame including request to send (RTS) information;
- a radio receiver unit configured to receive a frame including clear to send (CTS) information;
- and
- a processor configured to initiate data transmission responsive to a reception of the frame including CTS information via the radio receiver unit, and to describe in the frame including RTS information a lapse of time that starts and ends before the reception of an entirety of the frame including CTS information, transmitted by a destination communication station in response to a reception of the frame including RTS information, as medium reservation time information, wherein
- the medium reservation time information defines a first time period during which a NAV (Network Allocation Vector) is set by other communication stations, which receive the frame including RTS information, to prohibit transmission by the other communication stations only during the lapse of time.
A method of a sending communication station for data transmission, comprising:
- describing, by the sending communication station, in a frame including request to send (RTS) information a lapse of time that starts and ends before reception of an entirety of a frame including CTS information, transmitted by a destination communication station in response to a reception of the frame including RTS information, as medium reservation time information, the medium reservation time information defining a first time period during which a NAV (Network Allocation Vector) is set by other communication stations, which receive the frame including RTS information, to prohibit transmission by the other communication stations only during the lapse of time;
- transmitting, by the sending communication station, the frame including RTS information;
- receiving the frame including CTS information;
- and
- initiating, by the sending communication station, the data transmission responsive to the reception of the frame including CTS information in the receiving step.
