Abstract
This invention has as its object to allow an authentication process that avoids unnecessary information from being stored in a digital camera irrespective of whether or not a digital camera connected to the printer has a direct print function. To this end, in this invention, in an early stage of connection between a digital camera DSC and PD printer, the PD printer side requests an object which contains a keyword as authentication information of those which are stored and held by the DSC (S29). As a result, after it is determined the returned information contains authentication information, the printer notifies the DSC of its own authentication information (S33).
Claims22
A print apparatus which is arranged to communicate directly with a digital camera via a communication unit using a Picture Transfer Protocol (PTP) protocol in a transport layer and to serve as a host device during communication with the digital camera, the digital camera being used as a user interface device for instructing printing, for printing a sensed image stored in a memory attached to the digital camera, and to serve as a slave device during communicating with the print apparatus, the print apparatus comprising:
- a request unit configured to request the digital camera to send authentication information stored in the digital camera in response to the start of communication with the digital camera by said communication unit, said authentication information being managed by the digital camera as an object to be communicated in the PTP protocol and indicating that the digital camera can communicate using a predetermined direct printing protocol used in an application layer;
- and
- a notification unit configured to notify the digital camera of authentication information being managed by the print apparatus as an object to be communicated in the PTP protocol and indicating that the print apparatus can communicate using the predetermined direct printing protocol used in the application layer, after receiving from the digital camera the authentication information indicating that the digital camera can communicate using the predetermined direct printing protocol used in the application layer;
- wherein, after said notification unit notifies the digital camera the authentication information, the print apparatus receives a print job from the digital camera using the predetermined direct printing protocol.
A control method of controlling a print apparatus which directly communicates with a digital camera via a communication unit using a PTP protocol in a transport layer and to serve as a host device during communication with the digital camera, the digital camera being used as a user interface device for instructing printing, and printing a sensed image stored in a memory attached to the digital camera, and to serve as a slave device during communicating with the print apparatus, the control comprising:
- a request step for requesting the digital camera to send authentication information, stored in the digital camera, in response to the start of communication with the digital camera by said communication unit, the authentication information being managed by the digital camera as an object to be communicated in the PTP protocol and indicating that the digital camera can communicate using a predetermined direct printing protocol used in an application layer;
- and
- a notification step of notifying the digital camera of authentication information being managed by the print apparatus as an object to be communicated in the PTP protocol and indicating that the print apparatus can communicate using the predetermined direct printing protocol used in the application layer, after receiving from the digital camera the authentication information indicating that the digital camera can communicate using the predetermined direct printing protocol used in the application layer,
- wherein, after said notification step notifies the digital camera of the authentication information, the print apparatus receives a print job from the digital camera using the predetermined direct printing protocol.
A digital camera for storing an image sensed by an image sensing unit into a storage medium attached to the digital camera, which has a communication unit for communicating with a print apparatus and a user interface for instructing printing of the image, where the communication unit uses a PTP protocol in a transport layer and serves as a slave device during communicating with the print apparatus, the digital camera comprising:
- a first receiving unit configured to receive, from the print apparatus, a request for sending authentication information stored in the digital camera as an object to be communicated in the PTP protocol, in response to start of communication with the print apparatus by said communication unit, where said authentication information indicates that the digital camera can communicate using a predetermined direct printing protocol used in an application layer;
- a sending unit configured to send said authentication information to the print apparatus after receiving said request by said first receiving unit;
- a second receiving unit configured to receive authentication information being managed by the print apparatus as an object to be communicated in the PTP protocol from the print apparatus after sending the authentication information to the print apparatus by said sending unit;
- and
- a recognition unit configured to recognize that the print apparatus can communicate using the predetermined direct printing protocol used in the application layer if the authentication information had been received by said second receiving unit,
- wherein, after said recognition unit recognized that the print apparatus can communicate using the predetermined direct printing protocol used in the application layer, the digital camera can shift as the user interface device so that a user instructs a print job to be sent to the print apparatus in the predetermined directing print protocol.
A control method of controlling a digital camera which stores an image sensed by an image sensing unit into a storage medium attached to the digital camera and which, has a communication unit for communicating with a print apparatus and a user interface for instructing printing the image, where the communication unit uses a PTP protocol in a transport layer and serves as a slave device during communicating with the print apparatus, the control method comprising:
- a first receiving step of receiving, from the print apparatus, a request for sending authentication information stored in the digital camera as an object to be communicated in the PTP protocol, in response to the start of communication with the print apparatus by said communication unit, where said authentication information indicates that the digital camera can communicate using a predetermined direct printing protocol used in an application layer;
- a sending step of sending said authentication information to the print apparatus after receiving said request in said first receiving step;
- a second receiving step of receiving authentication information being managed by the print apparatus as an object to be communicated in the PTP protocol from the print apparatus after the authentication information is sent to the print apparatus in said sending step;
- and
- a recognition step of recognizing that the print apparatus can communicate using the predetermined direct printing protocol used in the application layer if the authentication information had been received in said second receiving step.
