Abstract

A system and method for controlling a body-scanning device with a wireless footswitch is disclosed. The method includes polling a status of a plurality of switches on a wireless footswitch using a microprocessor. A pulsed signal is sent from the microprocessor to a watchdog timer. The pulsed signal is pulsed at a predetermined rate when the microprocessor is operating within selected operating parameters. The microprocessor is reset when the pulsed signal is pulsed at a rate less than the predetermined rate. The status of the plurality of switches on the wireless footswitch is transmitted to a receiver connected to the scanning device to enable the scanning device to be controlled by actuating at least one of the plurality of switches on the wireless footswitch.

Dependent claims

A wireless footswitch system for controlling a body-scanning device, comprising:

a footswitch enclosure having a first side and a second side, wherein the first side is substantially level with a surface on which the enclosure is placed;
a plurality of switch zones located on the second side of the footswitch enclosure, wherein at least one of the plurality of switch zones contains at least two switches connected in series, with each switch zone configured to be actuated with a person's foot;
and
a secure wireless transmitter located within the footswitch enclosure and configured to form a secure wireless connection between the wireless footswitch and the scanning device to communicate actuation of the plurality of switch zones to enable an operator to control the scanning device using the footswitch.
