The invention relates to an improved method of dynamic nuclear polarisation (DNP) of carboxylic acids and to compounds and compositions for use in the method.

A compound of formula (1):
- wherein
- n is 1 to 10;
- x is 0 to 3;
- R is identical or different and represents fluoro, a straight chain or branched C1-C6-alkyl group or an aromatic or non-aromatic cyclic group containing 5 to 10 carbon atoms;
- and
- Q is H, a straight chain or branched C1-C6-alkyl group, or an aromatic or non-aromatic cyclic group containing 5 to 10 carbon atoms or
- wherein n, x and R are as defined above.
