Abstract
The present invention relates to compounds and pharmaceutically acceptable salts, esters and prodrugs of Formula (I) or (II): which are useful as AMPK modulators effective in treating diabetes, obesity and cancer in a subject.
Claims12
A compound represented by formula I:
- or a salt thereof, wherein
- X1, X3and X4are independently selected from the group consisting of CR1, and N, where each R1 is independently hydrogen, an electron-withdrawing group or an electron releasing group;
- X2 is C;
- is a substituted or unsubstituted 5- or 6-membered heteroaryl;
- where Z is O, N or NH;
- is an aryl or substituted aryl group and is connected to X3;
- and
- is substituted phenyl, wherein at least two substituents are hydroxyl.
A compound having the formula:
- or a salt thereof, wherein R1, R2, R4, R5 and R6 are independently hydrogen or one or more electron releasing groups, R3 is hydrogen, CN, —CHNOH, —CONH2 or —CHO and each R is selected from H or hydroxyl, wherein at least one R is hydroxyl.
