Abstract
An engine control unit having a one-time integration of a model predictive control template via a potentially long software process. Changes to the control structure may subsequently be made via a calibration dataset connected to the engine control unit without incurring the potentially long and laborious software process of implementing the template of other approaches in the related art.
Claims20
An Engine Control Unit (ECU) for controlling an engine of a vehicle, comprising:
- an input for receiving a input signal;
- an output for providing a control output to an actuator of an engine;
- a memory for storing a compiled control algorithm;
- a controller coupled to the memory for executing the compiled control algorithm, wherein the controller is configured to receive the input signal, and based on the compiled control algorithm, provide the control output to the actuator of the engine;
- and
- wherein the compiled control algorithm implements a generalized model predictive control template that is configured into a specific model predictive controller configuration for the controller by reference to a calibration dataset, wherein the compiled control algorithm is an instance of the specific model predictive controller configuration.
An Engine Control Unit (ECU) for controlling an engine of a vehicle, comprising:
- two or more inputs each for receiving an input signal;
- two or more outputs each for providing a control output to an actuator of an engine;
- a memory for storing a compiled control algorithm;
- a controller coupled to the memory for executing the compiled control algorithm, wherein the controller is configured to receive each of the two or more input signals, and based on the compiled control algorithm, provide each of the two or more control outputs;
- and
- wherein the compiled control algorithm references one or more off-line generated parameters, and produces one or more on-line generated parameters, wherein the one or more on-line generated parameters are repeatedly updated using the compiled control algorithm, which updates the two or more control outputs of the Engine Control Unit (ECU).
