Abstract
An Si/C composite includes carbon (C) dispersed in porous silicon (Si) particles. The Si/C composite may be used to form an anode active material to provide a lithium battery having a high capacity and excellent capacity retention.
Claims24
An Si/C composite comprising:
- porous silicon (Si) particles, the porous silicon particles having pores, and
- carbon embedded within the porous silicon particles, the carbon being crystalline or amorphous carbon.
A method for preparing an Si/C composite, comprising:
- mixing an alkali metal or an alkali earth metal with a silica/C composite, the silica/C composite including crystalline carbon or amorphous carbon, and subjecting the mixture of the alkali metal or alkali earth metal and the silica/C composite to heat treatment under an inert atmosphere to reduce the silica and form an oxide of the alkali metal or alkali earth metal;
- and
- treating the resultant product of the heat treatment with acid to remove the oxide of the alkali metal or alkali earth metal to provide an Si/C composite including porous silicon (Si) particles, the porous silicon particles having pores, and the crystalline or amorphous carbon embedded within the porous silicon particles.
An Si/C composite formed by a process comprising:
- mixing an alkali metal or an alkali earth metal with a silica/C composite, the silica/C composite including crystalline carbon or amorphous carbon, and subjecting the mixture of the alkali metal or alkali earth metal and the silica/C composite to heat treatment under an inert atmosphere to reduce the silica and form an oxide of the alkali metal or alkali earth metal;
- and
- treating the resultant product of the heat treatment with acid to remove the oxide of the alkali metal or alkali earth metal, thereby forming the Si/C composite, the Si/C composite including porous silicon (Si) particles, the porous silicon particles having pores, and the crystalline or amorphous carbon embedded within the porous silicon particles.
