A method for producing a ceramic porous body which comprises forming a slurry of 0.01 μm to 5 μm ceramic raw material powder dispersed in an aqueous solution of a gelable water-soluble polymer, gelling and then freezing the slurry to give a frozen body having a tissue structure of ice crystals formed from water released from the gelable water-soluble polymer, and then maintaining this structure intact through thawing, drying and sintering processes to give a ceramic porous body having continuous macropores of 10 μm to 300 μm in diameter and a porosity of 72% to 99%,
- wherein the gelable water-soluble polymer is an N-alkyl acrylamide polymer, an N-isopropyl acrylamide polymer, a sulfomethylated acrylamide polymer, an N-dimethylaminopropyl methacrylamide polymer, a polyalkyl acrylamide polymer, alginic acid, polyethyleneimine, starch, carboxymethyl cellulose, gelatin, hydroxymethyl cellulose, polyacrylic acid sodium, polyvinyl alcohol, polyethylene glycol, agar, or polyethylene oxide.
