Heat recovery device with self-cleaning

A cleaning appliance for cleaning at least one item of washware, the cleaning appliance comprising:

• at least one cleaning chamber for subjecting the washware to an action of at least one cleaning fluid;
• at least one waste-water system for discharging spent cleaning fluid;
• and
• at least one heat recovery device coupled to the waste-water system and configured to feed recovered heat back to a cleaning process, the heat recovery device comprising:
• at least one heat exchanger with at least one heat exchanger surface;
• at least one heating device, comprising at least one thermoelectric heat pump or at least one Peltier element, that is thermally coupled to the heat exchanger surface;
• and
• at least one controller configured to carry out a self-cleaning process for the heat exchanger, the heat exchanger surface being briefly heated by the heating device during the self-cleaning process.
