Abstract
A method and apparatus for a seismic cable is described. In one embodiment, the seismic cable includes a first cable segment and a second cable segment coupled together by a connector. Each cable segment includes an inner jacket defining a hollow core, a braided strength fiber surrounding the inner jacket, and an outer jacket circumferentially surrounding the braided strength fiber, wherein the connector isolates the first and second cable segments.
Claims20
A seismic cable, comprising:
- a first cable segment and a second cable segment coupled together by a connector, the connector electrically isolating the first cable segment from the second cable segment, each cable segment comprising:
- an inner jacket defining a hollow core;
- a braided strength fiber surrounding the inner jacket;
- and
- an outer jacket circumferentially surrounding the braided strength fiber.
A seismic cable, comprising:
- a first cable segment and a second cable segment having terminating ends coupled together by a connector, the connector electrically isolating the cable segments, each cable segment comprising:
- an inner jacket defining a hollow core;
- a plurality of discrete particles disposed within the hollow core;
- a braided strength fiber surrounding the inner jacket;
- and
- an outer jacket circumferentially surrounding the braided strength fiber.
A seismic sensor deployment system, comprising:
- a deployment vessel;
- a cable handling device disposed on the vessel;
- a plurality of discrete cable segments disposed on the vessel, each cable segment comprising:
- an inner jacket defining a hollow core;
- a plurality of discrete particles disposed within the hollow core;
- a braided aromatic polyamide fiber surrounding the inner jacket;
- and
- an outer jacket circumferentially surrounding the braided strength fiber and having a plurality of ridges extending therefrom;
- a connector coupling terminal ends of at least two of the cable segments, wherein each connector electrically isolates each of the plurality of cable segments;
- and
- a plurality of seismic sensor units, at least one sensor unit coupled to the connector, wherein each of the cable segments have a specific gravity between about 1.25 to about 1.6.
