Abstract
A system for conveying fluid includes a conduit segment and a pump disposed downstream of and fluidicly coupled to the conduit segment. The conduit segment has an interior volume for conveying the fluid in a predetermined direction of flow and a plurality of elongate vanes disposed within the interior volume.
Claims40
An apparatus for conveying fluid, the apparatus comprising:
- a conduit segment having an inner surface and an interior volume for conveying the fluid in a predetermined direction of flow;
- and
- a plurality of elongate vanes disposed within the interior volume, said vanes having radially innermost and radially outermost edges, said innermost edges of said plurality of vanes being spaced apart from one another so as to provide a core portion of said interior volume that is generally free of obstruction;
- wherein each of said plurality of vanes has a first end, a second end, and a midpoint therebetween;
- and wherein each of said plurality of vanes is attached to said conduit segment at a location between the midpoint and the first end which divides the vane into a nose portion and a tail portion, the tail portion being free from engagement with said conduit segment.

- wherein said interior volume of said conduit segment has a cross-sectional area substantially normal to the predetermined direction of flow and wherein each of said plurality of vanes has a length, a width, and a thickness, wherein the thickness is less than the length and less than the width, and the width is less than half of a longest dimension of the cross-sectional area;
- and
- wherein the length of each of said plurality of vanes is at least two times the longest dimension of the cross-sectional area.
