Abstract
One or more methods and systems of efficiently indexing a digitized video stream is presented. In one embodiment, the method comprises receiving a coded video stream containing non-scrambled frame location indicators and scrambled video data, filtering the non-scrambled frame location indicators, and generating a database used for indexing frames. In one embodiment, the apparatus comprises a processor such as a hardware and/or software capable of generating a database used for improving video playback functionality by way of filtering non-scrambled indicators that define the start of frames in a digitized video stream.
Claims38
A method of indexing video data within a video stream comprising:
- receiving said video stream by a set-top box, said video stream comprising one or more sets of network abstraction layer (NAL) units, each of one or more first NAL units of said one or more sets of NAL units comprising a non-scrambled access unit delimiter;
- filtering said non-scrambled access unit delimiter from each of said one or more sets of NAL units of said video stream, said non-scrambled access unit delimiter being located within a payload portion of a packet of said video stream;
- storing a database of descriptors into a hard disk drive, each of said descriptors describing positional information of the start of a frame of one or more frames of said video stream, said positional information obtained by way of using said non-scrambled access unit delimiter for said each of said one or more sets of NAL units;
- and
- using said database to index one or more frames of said video stream.
A personal video recorder comprising:
- a first circuitry used to receive a video stream, said video stream comprising one or more sets of network abstraction layer (NAL) units, each of one or more first NAL units of said one or more sets of NAL units comprising a non-scrambled access unit delimiter;
- a second circuitry used to filter said non-scrambled access unit delimiter from each of said one or more sets of NAL units of said video stream, said non-scrambled access unit delimiter being located within a payload portion of a packet of said video stream;
- and
- a hard disk drive used to store a database of descriptors in a memory, each of said descriptors describing positional information of the start of a frame of one or more frames of said video stream, said positional information obtained by way of using said non-scrambled access unit delimiter for said each of said one or more sets of NAL units, said database used to index one or more frames of said video stream.
A method of indexing video data within a video stream comprising:
- receiving said video stream, said video stream comprising one or more sets of network abstraction layer (NAL) units, each of one or more first NAL units of said one or more sets of NAL units comprising a non-scrambled access unit delimiter;
- filtering said non-scrambled access unit delimiter from each of said one or more sets of NAL units of said video stream;
- storing a database of descriptors in a memory, each of said descriptors describing positional information of the start of a frame of one or more frames of said video stream, said positional information obtained by way of using said non-scrambled access unit delimiter for said each of said one or more sets of NAL units;
- and
- using said database to index one or more frames of said video stream wherein a first scrambling control flag is used to control scrambling of a first payload portion of each of one or more transport stream layer packets of said video stream, said first scrambling control flag located within a first header of said each of said one or more transport stream layer packets, and
- wherein a second scrambling control flag used to control scrambling of a second payload portion of each of one or more packetized elementary stream layer packets of said video stream, said second scrambling control flag located within a second header of said each of said one or more packetized elementary stream layer packets, said first payload portion or said second payload portion comprising said non-scrambled access unit delimiter, said non-scrambled access unit delimiter indicating the start of a new frame.
A method of indexing video data within a video stream comprising:
- receiving said video stream, said video stream comprising one or more sets of network abstraction layer (NAL) units, each of one or more first NAL units of said one or more sets of NAL units comprising a non-scrambled access unit delimiter;
- filtering said non-scrambled access unit delimiter from each of said one or more sets of NAL units of said video stream;
- generating positional information of the start of a frame of said video stream using said non-scrambled access unit delimiter;
- storing said positional information into a database of a memory, said non-scrambled access unit delimiter located in a payload portion of each of one or more packets of said video stream;
- and
- indexing, using said database, one or more frames of said video stream, wherein a scrambling control flag is used to control scrambling of said payload portion of each of said one or more packets, said scrambling control flag set to:
- a first value that inhibits scrambling of said payload portion if said payload portion comprises said non-scrambled access unit delimiter;
- or
- a second value that initiates scrambling of said payload portion if said payload portion comprises video data corresponding to one or more video programs and channels.
