Abstract
An electromagnetic heater for heating an irregularly shaped object, including: a cavity within which an object is to be placed; at least one feed which feeds UHF or microwave energy into the cavity; and a controller that controls one or more characteristics of the cavity or energy to assure that the UHF or microwave energy is deposited uniformly in the object within ±30% over at least 80% of the volume of the object.
Claims24
An electromagnetic heater for heating an object, the heater comprising:
- a cavity for containing the object;
- at least one feed configured to transmit electromagnetic energy to the cavity at a plurality of frequencies;
- and
- at least one controller configured to:
- receive power measurement signals from at least one detector;
- determine an efficiency of energy transfer to the object for each of the plurality of frequencies, based on power measurement signals received from the at least one detector;
- and
- adjust power transmitted by the at least one feed at each frequency such that a multiplicative product of the efficiency and the power transmitted is substantially constant across the plurality of frequencies.

A control unit for an electromagnetic heater, the control unit comprising:
- at least one controller configured to:
- receive power measurement signals from at least one detector;
- determine an efficiency of energy transfer to an object in a cavity for each of a plurality of frequencies of electromagnetic energy transmitted to the cavity, based on power measurement signals received from the at least one detector;
- and
- adjust power transmitted by the at least one feed at each frequency such that a multiplicative product of the efficiency and the power transmitted is substantially constant across the plurality of frequencies.
