Abstract
Isolated polynucleotide molecules and peptides encoded by these molecules are used in the analysis of human carbamyl phosphate synthetase I phenotypes, as well as in diagnostic and therapeutic applications, relating to a human carbamyl phosphate synthetase I polymorphism. By analyzing genomic DNA or amplified genomic DNA, or amplified cDNA derived from mRNA, it is possible to type a human carbamyl phosphate synthetase I with regard to the human carbamyl phosphate synthetase I polymorphism, for example, in the context of diagnosing and treating hepatic veno-occlusive disease (HVOD) associated with bone marrow transplants.
Claims18
A method for treating or preventing hyperammonemia in a subject with a suboptimal urea cycle function, the method comprising administering to a neonatal or infant human subject in need thereof a therapeutically effective amount of citrulline, wherein the hyperammonemia is a result of urea cycle enzyme dysfunction, and whereby treatment or prevention of hyperammonemia is accomplished.
A method for increasing ammonia clearance in a subject suffering from suboptimal urea cycle function, the method comprising administering to the subject a therapeutically effective amount of citrulline, whereby a level of citrulline in the subject is raised and ammonia clearance is increased, wherein the subject is a neonate or infant and wherein the suboptimal urea cycle function is a result of urea cycle enzyme dysfunction.
A method of treating N-acetyl-glutamate (NAG) deficiency related hyperammonemia, said method comprising administering to a human subject in need thereof an amount of citrulline effective for therapy of NAG deficiency related hyperammonemia.
