Method for determining insulin sensitivity with biomarkers

A method of determining insulin sensitivity in a cat, the method comprising:

• analyzing a biological sample from a cat to determine a level(s) of 2-hydroxybutyrate and one or more biomarkers for insulin resistance in the sample, wherein the one or more biomarkers are selected from the group consisting of, linoleoyl LPC, creatine, palmitate, decanoyl carnitine, oleoyl LPC, oleate, linolenate, GPC, and stearate;
• and comparing the level(s) of 2-hydroxybutyrate and the one or more biomarkers in the sample to glucose disposal reference levels of 2-hydroxybutyrate and the one or more biomarkers in order to determine insulin sensitivity in the cat.

A method of classifying a cat according to glucose tolerance from normal glucose tolerance (NGT), to impaired fasting glucose tolerance (IFG), to impaired glucose tolerance (IGT), the method comprising:

• analyzing a biological sample from a cat to determine a level(s) of 2-hydroxybutyrate and one or more biomarkers for glucose tolerance in the sample, wherein the one or more biomarkers are selected from the group consisting of, linoleoyl LPC, creatine, palmitate, decanoyl carnitine, oleoyl LPC, oleate, linolenate, GPC, and stearate;
• and comparing the level(s) of 2-hydroxybutyrate and the one or more biomarkers in the sample to glucose tolerance reference levels of 2-hydroxybutyrate and the one or more biomarkers in order to classify the cat as having NGT, IFG, or IGT.

A method of determining insulin sensitivity in a subject, the method comprising:

• analyzing a biological sample from a subject to determine a level(s) of 2-hydroxybutyrate and linoleoyl LPC and one or more biomarkers for insulin resistance in the sample, wherein the one or more biomarkers are selected from the group consisting of oleoyl LPC, oleate, linolenate, linoleate, glycerophosphorylcholine (GPC), and stearate;
• and comparing the level(s) of 2-hydroxybutyrate, linoleoyl LPC and the one or more biomarkers in the sample to glucose disposal reference levels of 2-hydroxybutyrate, linoleoyl LPC and the one or more biomarkers in order to determine insulin sensitivity in the subject.

A method of determining insulin sensitivity in a subject, the method comprising:

• analyzing a biological sample from a subject to determine a level(s) of 2-hydroxybutyrate, oleate and one or more biomarkers for insulin resistance in the sample, wherein the one or more biomarkers are selected from the group consisting of linoleoyl LPC, oleoyl LPC, linolenate, linoleate, glycerophosphorylcholine (GPC), and stearate;
• and comparing the level(s) of 2-hydroxybutyrate, oleate and the one or more biomarkers in the sample to glucose disposal reference levels of 2-hydroxybutyrate, oleate and the one or more biomarkers in order to determine insulin sensitivity in the subject.

A method of determining insulin sensitivity in a subject, the method comprising:

• analyzing a biological sample from a subject to determine a level(s) of 2-hydroxybutyrate and one or more biomarkers for insulin resistance in the sample, wherein the one or more biomarkers are selected from the group consisting of linoleoyl LPC, oleoyl LPC, oleate, linolenate, linoleate, glycerophosphorylcholine (GPC), and stearate;
• and comparing the level(s) of 2-hydroxybutyrate and the one or more biomarkers in the sample to glucose disposal reference levels of 2-hydroxybutyrate and the one or more biomarkers in order to determine insulin sensitivity in the subject.
