Abstract
The present disclosure includes various method, device, and system embodiments for meat processing. One such method embodiment includes obtaining animal data for an animal selected to have a solution introduced into its circulatory system in a rinsing process and determining an insertion location based on the animal data. This method embodiment also includes establishing a fluid conduit from a reservoir through the insertion location into the circulatory system of the selected animal by inserting a cannula in fluid communication with the reservoir through the insertion location. The method further includes activating flow of a solution from the reservoir through the fluid conduit to introduce the solution into the circulatory system of the animal.
Claims18
A device to inject fluid into a circulatory system of an animal in a meat processing rinse comprising:
- a cannula body attached to a valve body at a first end, with the cannula body in fluid communication with a rinse system through the valve body and having a piercing tip at a second end;
- and
- an anchor attached to the cannula body in a first position, wherein the anchor has a surface for contacting an interior surface of the circulatory system;
- wherein the device includes an activator movably attached to the cannula body, and wherein the activator is capable of engaging the anchor to deploy the anchor into a second position during movement of the activator;
- and
- wherein the activator further comprises a slide sleeve mounted on the cannula body, and wherein the slide sleeve moves along the cannula body toward the piercing tip thereby deploying the anchor to the second position to retain the piercing tip in the animal heart while fluid is being injected into the heart.
A method for meat processing comprising:
- selecting an animal from a particular group of animals to have a solution introduced into a heart of the animal in a rinsing process;
- determining a heart location of the selected animal through use of a number of sensors;
- establishing a fluid conduit from a reservoir into the heart of the selected animal by inserting a cannula in fluid communication with the reservoir through an insertion location;
- and
- activating flow of a solution from the reservoir through the fluid conduit to introduce the solution into the heart of the animal.
A system to inject fluid into a circulatory system of an animal in a meat processing rinse comprising:
- at least one sensor system including a number of sensors to determine an insertion location;
- an insertion device including a flow controller to control the flow of the rinse solution through a cannula and into the circulatory system;
- and
- a computing device coupled to the at least one sensor system and the insertion device, the computing device having executable instructions storable thereon and executable thereby to operate the insertion device to:
- insert the cannula into the circulatory system of the animal based on the determined insertion location;
- and
- activate the flow of the rinse solution.
