Abstract
The present invention relates generally to a reinforcement composition and a method of reinforcing an asphalt cement concrete composition. The reinforcement composition includes a core and an outer container. The core includes a plurality of fibers, and the outer container includes a polyolefin selected from the group consisting of polyethylene, polypropylene, and mixtures thereof.

A reinforcement composition comprising a core and an outer container, the core contained within the outer container, the core comprising a plurality of fibers, the outer container comprising a polyolefin selected from the group consisting of polyethylene, polypropylene, and mixtures thereof, and the outer container constructed such that when said outer container is heated to a specified temperature, the plurality of fibers is released from said outer container.
A reinforced asphalt composition, comprising:
- a reinforcement component, comprising:
- a core comprising a plurality of fibers;
- and
- an outer container which encompasses the core, the outer container constructed such that when said outer container is heated to a specified temperature, the plurality of fibers are released from said outer container;
- and
- an asphalt component, comprising:
- aggregate;
- and
- binder.
