Pre-applied protective jacketing to grooved insulation

A flat, rectangular composite insulation, comprising:

• an insulation member having a top surface and a bottom surface and pores in at least the bottom surface;
• an adhesive coating disposed on the bottom surface of the insulation member and at least partially within the pores;
• a flexible backing layer having an inner surface and an outer surface, the inner surface being in contact with the adhesive coating;
• a protective jacketing material having an inner surface in contact with the outer surface of said backing layer, wherein said protective jacketing material's inner surface comprises a pre-applied pressure sensitive adhesive, and wherein the pressure sensitive adhesive is bonded to the outer surface of the backing layer;
• and
• a plurality of V-grooves defined at spaced intervals in the top surface of the insulation member and extending through the insulation member to a point proximal to the flexible backing layer, each of said plurality of V-grooves being defined by a pair of opposed faces, with pairs of opposed faces being selectively urgeable to an abutting relationship with one another to define at least one substantially curved portion along the outer surface of the flexible protective jacketing material.
