EZ key registration assembly

Apparatus for aligning a key blank head of a key blank to be bitted with respect to a key duplicating device, the apparatus comprising:

• at least one jaw assembly affixed to the duplicating device, the at least one jaw assembly comprising
• an upper and a lower jaw, moveable towards and away from each other and having opposing first surfaces for engaging and clamping, of the key blank, only the key blank head, the key blank having the key head and also having a key blade projecting from the key head, the blade having a section adapted to be bitted by the duplicating device,
• at least two projecting surface interruptions on at least one of the first surfaces,
• said keys blank head having at least two surface configurations integral with the head of the key blank and each adapted to mate closely with and receive therein a respective one of the at least two surface interruptions of the at least one first jaw surface, the opposing first surfaces and the at least two surface interruptions constituting a gripping portion of the at least one jaw assembly, wherein when the at least two surface configurations are mated with the respective ones of the at least two surface interruptions, the key blade projects in its entirety from the gripping portion of the jaw assembly, the at least two surface configurations of the key blank head and the at least two surface interruptions of the at least one jaw being chosen such that the key blank head can be positioned on the at least one first surface in no more than two possible positions with respect to the at least one jaw assembly when the at least two surface configurations and the at least two surface interruptions are mated.
