A method for obtaining the mass spectrum of ionized analytes, the method comprising:
- a) providing ionized analytes in the gas phase at a source;
- b) accelerating the ionized analytes through a series of electrodes in a linear pulsed-voltage acceleration subsystem;
- c) contacting the accelerated ionized analytes with a detector, thereby obtaining the mass spectrum of the ionized analytes, wherein the ionized analytes are accelerated linearly from the source to the detector;
- wherein the mass spectrum has a signal of the ionized analytes at least three-fold greater than without accelerating the ionized analytes in the pulsed-voltage acceleration subsystem.
